San Francisco– March 22, 2022– Today, Compology, the leading sustainable waste metering company, announced that its Cofounder and CEO, Jason Gates, has been named one of Grist’s 50 Fixers of 2022.
The Grist 50 list profiles groundbreaking individuals who are proving that a better climate future is possible through their contributions in business, politics, art, and science. Past members of Grist 50 include Congressman Ted Lieu, Varshini Prakash, Cofounder and Executive Director of the Sunrise Movement, and Vien Troung, Senior Director of Global Engagement in Sustainability at Nike.
As Cofounder and CEO of Compology, Jason Gates was chosen for his work in bringing smart, sustainable solutions to waste management. Specifically, Compology’s AI-powered cameras which track dumpster fill levels, identify contaminants, and provide waste intelligence data to businesses and cities. Ultimately, this helps drive waste reduction, increased recycling rates, fewer CO2 emissions from landfills and trucks, and lower waste collection costs. Compology’s waste metering technology has helped hundreds of corporations and municipalities including McDonalds, ADT Security, and the City of Miami make progress on their sustainability goals while reducing associated sanitation costs by 30% on average.
As part of Grist 50, Jason will be a trusted member of Grist’s Fix Solutions Lab, which highlights the tools already available to improve sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint. The goal of Fix’s national network is to connect environmental innovators to one another to help foster collaborations on the bold ideas that will help solve our climate crises and realize the future we deserve.
“We don’t have to wait for a silver bullet before taking measurable steps to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Jason Gates, CEO of Compology. “By leveraging existing technologies, like waste metering, we can take meaningful action right now that, when done at scale, will reduce our environmental footprint and lead to a greener future.”
